It gives instant relief but in the long run it has many negative effects. Similarly, some people in India take medicines of gas like Asiloc, Genetek indiscriminately without consulting doctors. But keep in mind that such medicines should never be taken without the advice of doctors. Recently, the Health Ministry has excluded 26 similar medicines from the National List for Essential Medicine. That is, the government has excluded these 26 medicines from the essential list. Atul Kakkar, Co-Chairman and Senior Consultant, Department of Internal Medicine at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital said that self-medication causes a lot of harm. This is the reason why the government has excluded these medicines from the essential list.

Many types of harm due to continuous taking
Dr. Atul Kakkar told that there are strange problems in India. Here people start taking medicines on their own. He told that after Corona, it seemed that people themselves come to treat everything. Therefore, many medicines have been removed from the essential list. If you talk about acidity medicine, then if it is consumed continuously then it has many side effects. Taking antacids gives immediate relief. It kills germs quickly, but if used incorrectly for a long time, it also has negative effects in many ways. In some recent research, carcinogenic elements have also been found in this medicine.
Therefore removed from the list
Dr. Atul Kakkar said that in fact, the risk ratio of a drug is seen. That is, for how many days does the effect of a medicine last? What are its benefits and whether there are far-reaching side effects, it is assessed. The medicines which have been removed from the essential list that they have a bad effect on the body if they are taken continuously on their own. In developed countries, only doctors recommend taking such medicines, but people take it indiscriminately from their chemist’s shop. This is the reason why the government has removed these medicines from the essential list. Dr Atul Kakkar says that these medicines should not be taken from the chemist’s shop without the advice of doctors.
These are the side effects of Erythromycin
Dr Atul explains that most of the people in India use erythromycin for sore throat or for cold, all these would have been viral disease but erythromycin is antibiotic for bacterial infection. Therefore, in such problems, firstly this medicine does not work, secondly when we really need it, then it will not work because resistance or resistance is created in it. Its biggest side effect is that it causes stomach upset. Similarly, other medicines also have side effects.

Dr. Atul tells that we have over the counter medicine (OTC) and should be taken there. No other medicine should be taken on its own. However, the medicines which have been removed from the government’s essential list, it does not mean that these medicines will not be available in medical stores. These medicines will continue to be available but it should not be misused, so this medicine should be taken only when the doctor prescribes.
