Cleverly said in an interview to ‘PTI-Bhasha’, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is recognized for speaking effectively on the world stage. We know that the Russian leadership also respects India’s position on the global stage.
He said, “I think this step of Prime Minister Modi in the matter is welcome. We hope that President Vladimir Putin will take note of the voices that have been raised demanding peace and de-escalation. That’s why we welcome this step of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said that many lives have been destroyed in the Ukraine war.
Cleverly said on Wednesday on the sidelines of a high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly, “We have certainly seen many lives destroyed in the Ukraine war, the people of Ukraine as well as the citizens of Russia … which is very frightening.” .”

He said the threat of food insecurity and famine looming large on the people was greater than before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In the context of world leaders gathering at the UN Headquarters amid global unrest, humanitarian and geopolitical crisis, Cleverly said the UN is still relevant.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session provides a ‘great opportunity’ to have bilateral meetings with their counterparts.
Cleverly, who arrived in New York for the UNGA session, also met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar late Wednesday evening.
Earlier in the day, Cleverly said he was looking forward to meeting his Indian counterpart.
